(Johnsburg, NY October 20, 2017) The trustees of the Glenn and Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation rotate the place of their Annual Meeting and Board Retreat around the Adirondack Park each year. This year it was held at Silver Bay YMCA on Lake George. While there the trustees met with 19 not-for-profits in the Ticonderoga/Northern Lake George Region, organized by Steve Boyce, and hosted by Silver Bay YMCA. The group discussed challenges in their community and how the Pearsall Foundation might help.
The trustees also reviewed 65 grant applications, up from 47 from the year before, and fully funded the requested amount for 28 of them and partially funded 12, including:
- Upper Jay Art Center to underwrite live performances.
- Tri-Lakes Center for Independent Living in Saranac Lake for staff mileage to expand outreach to the disabled community members throughout Franklin and Essex Counties.
- Northern Forest Canoe Trail for trip scholarships to low income families
- Tannery Pond Community Center, North Creek to help underwrite three live performances:
- Indian Lake Theatre for their filmmaker series.
- Caroga Arts Collective for expanded programing and educational offerings.
- Johnsburg Fine Arts for the North Creek Mosaic Project
- Warrensburg EMS for pediatric emergency care and accident prevention training
- North Country Children’s Museum, Potsdam for science, technology, engineering, arts and math educational offerings.
- Adirondack Sky Center and Observatory, Tupper Lake for an ADA-approved walkway and lightning.
- Fort Ticonderoga Association for educational outreach in area schools.
- Cornell Cooperative Extension of Essex County for sets of protective gear for their welding program.
- North Country School Camp Treetops, Lake Placid for their nutritional conference for up to 120 Adirondack school children.
- Johnsburg Youth Commission for six teenager programs and their adult independent living skills program.
- BluSeed Studios of Saranac Lake to help underwrite their live music program.
- Ticonderoga Central School for their backpack program proving nutritious foods to low income students over the weekends and during the summer months.
- Search Team 5-1 of Johnstown, NY to purchase radios and to offset training costs.
- Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts, Blue Mountain Lake to help underwrite three live music performances.
- Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake for their “Green Team” water foundation re-fill initiative.
- Maker Guild, Willsboro for 4 community events introducing Makerspace to 80 adults and children.
- Cranberry Lake North Shore Hub for legal and CPA fees for their restoration of a local lakeside church as a community building.
- Seagle Music Colony, Schroon Lake for children’s opera productions.
- Mountain Lakes PBS, Plattsburgh to help underwrite their locally-produced series “Spotlight”.
- Lake Placid Sinfonietta to help underwrite Eastman School of Music program.
- North Current – Saranac Lake Rotary Foundation for musical programming at next year’s festival.
- Lake Placid Center for the Arts to underwrite their school matinee program.
- Sherman Free Library, Port Henry for two new computers.
- Adirondack Research Consortium, Paul Smiths to help underwrite student Adirondack research papers.
- First Night Saranac Lake for their New Year’s Eve buttons and events.
- Ticonderoga Festival Guild for their “In School” programming and other children’s events.
- Town of Johnsburg Dog Park for their equipment for their new dog park.
- Adirondack Community Action Program for the expansion of their programming due to the merger of two school districts.
- Moriah Central School BackPack Program for purchase of food from the Regional Food Bank.
- Silver Bay YMCA for the purchase of recreational equipment and food for their Healthy Meal Program and family dinner.
- Johnsburg Central School PTO to fund Hudson Dunkley’s peer “Snack for Friends” Program.
- Johnsburg Imagination Library to help underwrite the cost of monthly new books to every child registered in the program to age of 5.
- North Country Public Radio for annual underwriting.
The trustees also approved a special award of $2,500 to the Adirondack Foundation (formerly ACT) to help fund their Working Family child care options study and their Affordable Housing through energy-efficiency program.
The foundation also added two Junior Trustees members to the board this year who presented proposals for two special $500 awards. The Junior Trustees selected the Wild Center in Tupper Lake and the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge in Wilmington as their Adirondack not-for-profit. The board approved both proposals.
The Glenn and Carol Adirondack Foundation, “dedicated to improving the quality of life for year-round residents of the Adirondack Park”, was founded in 2000. Since its inception, the foundation has funded 475 not-for-profit grant requests totaling over $811,000. Typically, the Foundation annually gifts 5% of the Foundation’s fiscal year end portfolio value.
The next cycle of accepting grant applications will occur July 1, 2020 to August 31, 2020. Grant applications are accepted online.
